Jade BARGET
Curatrice

Biography

Vit à : Paris + Bergen , France + Norvège

Jade Meili Barget is a curator based between France and Norway. She is currently Live Curator at Bergen Kunsthall. She is also curator in residence at the Museum of Art and History in Geneva, where she develops the performance programme First Impressions, dedicated to the ways artists play with and subvert our contemporary image regime. In 2024, she was co-curator and co-editor of the 15th Gwangju Biennale, Pansori: A Soundscape of the 21st Century, a sonic investigation into the spatial transformations of our present. From 2021 to 2024, she was part of the curatorial team of transmediale festival in Berlin, dedicated to the politics of the image and post-digital cultures. As an independent curator, she has developed two long-term projects: The well tempered and Fatal & Fallen. The well tempered, inspired by the exploitation and contemporary imaginaries of energy resources, takes the form of a series of micro-fictions: each chapter unfolds as an exhibition, a performance, or a text. Fatal & Fallen, launched in 2021, is a programme of films and readings centred on the aesthetics of grindhouse cinema and B-movie revenge narratives from East Asia, exploring the persistence of revenge as a popular motif circulating across media, collective narratives, and contemporary imaginaries. Her curatorial work has been presented at Nguyen Art Foundation (Ho Chi Minh City), Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (Taipei), Frac Île-de-France (Romainville), Fondation Fiminco (Romainville), Espace Niemeyer (Paris), soft power (Berlin), Tropez (Berlin), Asian Film Archive (Singapore), Sinema transtopia (Berlin), Gorki Theatre (Berlin), Palazzo Re Rebaudengo (Guarene), and Nottingham Contemporary (Nottingham). She also writes micro-fictions and essays, published notably in Momus, frieze, The White Review, Art Monthly, THE SEEN, diaCRITICS, Los Angeles Review of Books, and AQNB.
