Madeleine FILIPPI
Commissaire d'exposition indépendante - Critique d'art

Biography

Holding a Master’s degree in Art History and Cultural Mediation from the Sorbonne, Madeleine Filippi has been an independent curator and art critic since 2011, working with both public and private cultural institutions (Beirut Art Fair, Colombo Art Biennale, Frac Champagne-Ardenne, Saison France-Roumanie, Centre d’art Ange Leccia, etc.). Her research focuses on the intersection of Memory, Language, and liminal spaces, viewed as vectors and witnesses of contemporary societal issues. Her curatorial approach is grounded in a critical practice informed by philosophy and sociology. Particularly attentive to time-based media and the status of the image (photography, video art), her projects also explore the porosity between these mediums and broader visual practices, spanning from installation to drawing. After serving as co-editor-in-chief of Revue Diapo, a magazine specialized in performance and video art, she became the director of Galerie Vanessa Quang (Paris, France). She was subsequently appointed collection manager for several private collectors, as well as for the Zinsou Foundation (Cotonou, Benin). She also taught the art market at the University of Corsica (2019-2023). Today, she contributes to various art magazines and exhibition catalogues focusing on emerging art scenes and the art market both in France and internationally (Art Press, Le Quotidien de l’art, L’art même, etc.). She regularly lectures at higher education institutions and universities (Paris College of Art, IESA, Sciences Po, etc.) and serves on various art juries. Former co-president of C-E-A (French Association of Curators) (2023–March 2026) and vice-president of CIPAC (Federation of Contemporary Art Professionals) (2023–2025), she is a member of the expert council of the Altaïr Think Tank, and a member of AICA France. She was shortlisted for the AICA Prize in 2020.
