Mathilde Jouen holds a DNSEP (National Higher Diploma in Visual Arts) from the École Supérieure d’Arts et Médias de Caen (Caen School of Arts and Media) and a PhD in Aesthetics, Sciences and Technologies of the Arts from the University of Paris 8. She is a researcher and exhibition curator. Her work initially focused on the intersection of art and science. Her dissertation, entitled “(A)gravity and Contemporary Art,” explores new challenges in sculpture and installation: forces of gravity, the relationship to the ground, to falling, or conversely, conveying notions of lightness, flight, suspension, and balance within spaces. Her research has broadened through her interactions with numerous artists working in drawing, painting, and performance. In 2020, she founded the VOAR platform (Vente d’Oeuvres d’Artistes à Rencontrer – Sale of Works by Artists to Meet), a non-profit project that allows artists to sell their work directly, for which she received funding from the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund). For several years, she has been providing more personal support to certain visual artists in their respective careers, helping them to develop their projects and business models.
