PUBLIC POOL # 1 “myth is a word”
June 21, 2016/2 pm – 9 pm
Auditorium – International City of Arts
On the initiative of the association CEA / Association française des commissaires d’exposition, PUBLIC POOL # 1 “the myth is a word” is a continuous event, a forum / forum of discussions on the artistic news in their report to the issues crossed currently within the society.
Extension of the POOL meetings conceived and proposed at the Cité International des Arts for almost a year, PUBLIC POOL # 1 “the myth is a word” takes as a point of departure the 53 texts of Roland Barthes’s Mythologies. As Barthes himself says, “myth is a communication system, it is a message”. His reflections, in the form of short texts, reacted to current events (a press article, a weekly photograph, a film, a show, an exhibition).
Each participant is thus invited to take inspiration from one of the 53 myths in order to propose a specific intervention pertaining to both the position and the speech, as well as a visual or performative proposition.
Recognized as a public utility whose purpose is to welcome foreign and French professional artists to residency in Paris, the Cité internationale des Arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from more than 55 countries who stay in one of the 325 residency workshops.
