Vit à : Nantes & Paris
Elise Bergonzi was born in 1997 in Paris, France. She lives and works between Nantes and Paris.
Elise Bergonzi is a French-Caribbean artist and curator. Her work questions our everyday lives, at the intersection of phenomenological research and speculative narration. Her projects establish connections between our habitats, our socio-ecological futures, and the liminal narratives contained within watery (eco)systems.
As a curator, she draws inspiration from cure & care theories to question modes of exhibition and the relational dynamics they generate. Her curatorial projects create porosities between works and their contexts. She conceives exhibitions as living spaces, where works engage in dialogue to produce narratives and question our futures. They establish more fluid social ecologies.
A graduate of the Nantes and Paris School of Fine Arts, as well as the Iceland University of the Arts, Elise Bergonzi curates exhibitions and collaborates with art galleries. Between 2021 and 2023, she collaborated with Galerie RDV and Galerie Sabrina Lucas in Nantes (FR), before becoming coordinator and co-curator of Scroll Galerie in Nantes (FR) from 2023 to 2025. There, she has organized solo and group exhibitions. She has also curated several exhibitions in France and Iceland.
Elise Bergonzi frequently writes texts for artists and exhibitions. Her writings have been published in magazines such as Opium Philosophie in 2022. She also co-founded and hosted a radio series of interviews with artists and art professionals for the web radio station DAM between 2019 and 2021. Since 2025, she has worked as studio manager for the artist Diane Cescutti.
Elise Bergonzi’s work has been shown in solo shows and she has participated in several group exhibitions. She received research and production grants from the city of Nantes (FR) and the CROUS des Pays de la Loire (FR) in the same year, followed by a grant from the DRAC des Pays de Loire (FR) in 2025. Since 2025, she has been a member of the HyperTerrier Collective.
