Laurène Maréchal
Fondatrice directrice d’Artocène, biennale d’art contemporain

Biography

Vit à : Chamonix-Mont-Blanc , France

Born in Paris in 1988, Laurène Maréchal is an art curator. Beyond her curatorial practice, she works on the development of cultural projects, public awareness, and the connection between contemporary art and heritage.

With ten years of professional experience within renowned collections of contemporary art, galleries, and institutions in London, Paris, and Geneva, as well as several curatorial projects, Laurène Maréchal founded Artocène, a biennial of contemporary art in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc.

Her curatorial practice focuses particularly on specific contexts, apprehending the physical and functional complexity of non-institutional spaces. In recent years, her research has centered on issues of landscape transformation and our relationship to living entities in contemporary art practices. By inviting artists for mountain residencies, she seeks to intertwine their practice with fragments of history, geology, environmental sciences, mountaineering practice, and philosophy.

Laurène Maréchal contributes to the contemporary art network in the Alpine territory Altitudes as vice-president and hosts the podcast/radio show “Au fil de l’art” on cultural news between Chamonix and Geneva. She holds a MA in art history from the University of Warwick and has collaborated with institutions such as Cranford Collection (London), The Arts Club (London), ICA (London), Galerie Chantal Crousel (Paris), Fondation Royaumont (Greater Paris), Art for the world (Geneva), CAUE Haute Savoie (Annecy), Villa du Parc (Annemasse), and Musée Alpin (Chamonix). Laurène Maréchal is also a member of the board of the Fondation Wilfrid Moser.
