Sol KIM
Independent Curator

Biography

Vit à : Paris , France

Born in Seoul, Korea but having lived in New Zealand and now France, she experienced the clash of cultures from an early age. Having experienced so-called “cultural differences” and language barriers, she was naturally drawn to the art world, which is apod- ictically a universal language.

She now works as an independent curator, working closely with a wide range of artists from all over the world.

As a forever stranger living in a foreign world, her ongoing question
is how one’s identity is formed and expressed. Her centre of interest particularly lies in contemporary art creation intertwined with the issues of diaspora and identity. She maintains a deep interest in the complex and changing formation of identity in cur- rent times, in a physically and digitally intertwined world.

She is a co-founder and the main curator of “akzl”, a Paris and Seoul- based international collective of artists. She has curated a winning exhibition of Apex Art’s international open call, “Memory Card : The Perks of Being Able to Remember” at art- ist-run space Glass Box in Paris.

She also participated as a researcher for the exhibition “Hip-Hop 360” at the Paris Philharmonic, sharing her knowledge in the representation of black identity in Harlem street fashion based on her academic research on the concept of hybridity and diasporicidentity reflected in Black Fashion.

She holds an M.A. in Geopolitics of Art and Culture from the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle, with a major in Cultural Management, and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Panthéon-Sorbonne, specialised in Contemporary Art.
