Céline Poizat is an independent curator, editor and art critic, and founder of the NONFICTION research project dedicated to the aesthetics of young international contemporary art through the prism of Critical Studies
“My curatorial research is political. It focuses on feminist issues, in particular the ethics of care, based on decolonial ecofeminist research, and vegan thought. I question dominant models of representation and assignment, narratives of performance, the appropriation of knowledge and circles of ethical consideration. In particular, I explore the aesthetic and political significance of the resurgence of certain figures of marginality such as the witch, the mermaid, the madman, the madwomen, the clown and so on. I also focus on the question of alliances and the intersectionality of struggles and identities, notably through the question of the “animal”.
My curatorial practice is rooted in a sensitive approach. It’s about sensing the times, putting stories, images and affects on the conceptual issues of our time. For me, there’s something about form that must pre-exist any argument. In my approach, the works don’t illustrate a thought or articulate a thought like a dissertation; they are thought in the making. If the image is the language of artists, then my curatorial practice aims to speak this language and create narrative exhibitions. Forms that, above all else, discuss, respond to and enrich each other, beyond thought itself, in a generous and attentive approach to the viewer.”
