Contemporary Calgary (C) is a vital new non-collecting institution playing a key role in building a world-class city by showcasing and engaging with the most exceptional and innovative visual art and artists of our time.
This position is responsible for all aspects of the exhibition program at Contemporary Calgary. The Senior Curator, working in close collaboration with the Director and CEO and the Associate Curator, establishes C’s curatorial thrust and defines a multi-year program of exhibitions and public activities that inspires, engages and enthralls.
Develops a multi-year plan of exhibitions, publications, public programs and activities that support C’s mandate to promote modern and contemporary art to the public.
Organises and curates exhibitions, writes catalogue essays and other texts as required to support the program.
Oversees, manages and mentors the Associate Curator and other front line staff (gallery attendants, “animators”) to ensure the successful delivery of the annual program.
Develops, oversees and monitors the annual exhibition and public programming budget and ensures that costs are contained and efficiencies realized throughout the annual fiscal cycle.
Develops, nurtures and maintains relationships with artists, curators, visual arts professionals and organisations in Alberta, Canada and abroad.
Develops and delivers key note addresses, lectures and presentations to a wide variety of public participants.
Participates in and represents C in curatorial forums, symposia and other activities.
Is an active, credible and consistent participant in the cultural and visual arts environment in Alberta and in Canada.
Collaborates with the Director and CEO, the Board of Directors and staff to ensure that C’s policies and procedures reflect and support best practice in the field.
