For more than a century, the Stedelijk Museum has presented world class artists at an early stage of their career. The museum encouraged artists to think ambitiously, work in unusual formats and produce new artworks. To support and develop this mandate, the museum is looking for a curator Contemporary Art.
The post specifically focuses on developing and managing new productions in the field of New Media and Live Arts, which includes digital media, performance, dance, sound art and « spoken word, » among others. The successful candidate will strengthen the role of these disciplines within the museum, nationally and internationally, by means of temporary exhibitions, collaborations, co-productions and collection displays. The appointee is also expected to be experienced in and capable of responding to the issues and challenges posed by time-based artworks within the context of a collection-driven institution.
The Stedelijk Museum is looking for a curator with a degree in art history or a comparable academic qualification. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in developing new media and live arts projects. The acquisition of media artworks tends to raise a great many challenges. For this reason, we are looking for a candidate with a highly developed (personal) vision of and engagement with new developments in art production, as well as strategies pertaining to the acquisition and conservation of time based artworks. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate experience in this area of research in the form of projects, publications and/or contributions to symposia.
