Cooper Hewit – Smithsonian Design Museum announces an open call for curators for the position of Curator of Contemporary Design. The curator should have the experience to develop and produce contemporary design exhibits and public programs that present new frontiers in design research that will have a major impact on design and our future as a nation and global community of users. Responsibilities include the articulation of the exhibition concept, the writing of catalogs and wall texts, the selection of works and the supervision of the installation. The candidate must use a collaborative and integrated approach to exhibits and program planning that significantly improves the quality of the visitor experience, attracts positive press, and generates respect for the general public and the design community.
– A master’s degree (or more) in art history or design with expertise in contemporary design that includes a thorough understanding of the design process and the history of design.
– A recognized expert in the field by working as a curator and / or researcher in the field.
– Knowledge of museum management principles and the ability to participate in a wide variety of committees and exhibition meetings for planning and development purposes.
