Initiated in 1994 the Curatorial Programme of Arts Centre de Appel wishes to offer young curators a condensed package of experiences and skills that can be used as tools and instruments during the further development of their professional career. De Appel is an internationally oriented arts centre located in Amsterdam that functions as a site for research and presentation of contemporary visual arts through a series of exhibitions, performances publications and discoursive events.Under the directorship of Niels Van Tomme the programme will continue to pursue these ambitions but will simultaneously also shift towards a more pragmatic and research oriented approach. Six emerging curators with various academic and experiential backgrounds will be asked to develop projects within the framework of De Appel’s newly established theme: modes of de-universalization.
The programme culminates in a final project to be curated collectively by the participants. In past years final projects have taken shape as festivals, radio broadcasts, performance programmes and exhibitions.
Not provided. Participants of the Curatorial Programme are required to find housing in Amsterdam during their course year. To find housing in Amsterdam can be particularly difficult. Participants should calculate between 400 and 800 euros for expenses in rent. De Appel offers advice and support in regard to housing.
The Curatorial Programme 2018-19 will run from September 2018 until June 2019. Based upon the submitted documents twelve candidates will be shortlisted. An international jury will interview the candidates in the second half of March 2018 and will select the final six participants.
